Poster My Wall

Great end of season gifts for the Team:

T-ball ruled our lives for 3 months, every Monday and Saturday, from March to June. I watched the kids throw, catch, hit and run around with their friends. And when the season ended, a few of the other team moms and I wanted to gift a little something to the team.

The coaches bought the kids cute bobble-head trophies and medals, so we decided to gift them collages. At first, one mom offered to print photos and make a DIY collage. While we all loved the idea, we knew that project would take hours – with over 20 kids on the team, plus 3 coaches, we didn’t want anyone to sit, cut, glue and shop for frames.

Luckily, someone mentioned PosterMyWall. Thank goodness!!! The site was easy to use, and with a little help from their gallery of templates and online tools, we were able to create two different types of collages.

For the coach, we used their team pic and this quote: “A good coach will make his players see what they can be rather than what they are.” Ara Parasheghian

For each player, we made of a collage out of the best team candids. To personalize each kid’s gift, we added their team solo pic, name, number and team name/year. We used the site’s Color Pop feature to make each individual stand on their respective poster. It looked pretty cool.

The moms and I decided to buy the photo quality digital downloads and print at a nearby Costco. But PosterMyWall also offers offers different types of prints and even bulk download options! Checkout this page if you want more info on their products and shipping prices: http://www.postermywall.com/index.php/g/sports-posters

Anyway, at the team pizza party, we presented these gifts. Of course, the kids loved them for about 5 seconds before something else piqued their interest, but at least their parents have a nice keepsake for the season 🙂

Cheeseburger Pasta

I’ve honestly been working on this post since July 4th weekend and I have no better excuse than I was lazy. I promise to do better. We’ve spent the entire summer attempting to purchase the rental home that we’re currently in. Its been one set back after another. We have another potential closing date for tomorrow so we’ll see how that goes. None of those things have to do with this recipe though. This is kind of my favorite freezer meal. It’s not truly a freezer meal but eventually I’m going to do a series on freezer cooking and it’s going to be at the top of my list.

I know I said I was revamping everything on my blog and gearing it more towards fitness and healthier eating. That wasn’t a lie, I just firmly believe in semi unhealthy food to keep you from going insane sometimes. This recipe combines probably my two favorite food, Cheeseburgers and Pasta. The only thing it’s missing is pickles but I think that would be too weird for this dish.  This reminds me of a homemade version of Hamburger Helper. I’ve been guilty of grabbing a box or two of it when its on sale at our local grocery store for $.88 a box. That being said this is more expensive but you know exactly whats in it and for me and my husband it feeds us for at least two meals.

I found this recipe a few years ago and forgot about it until one night recently I wasn’t in the mood to cook anything huge and I had all the stuff. I originally got this recipe from Six Sisters Stuff. Their photo’s are alot prettier so go check them out! I did change the recipe up a little bit, I used ground turkey and Barilla Protein Noodles.

Cheeseburger Pasta

1 lb lean ground turkey

1(1 oz) pkg taco seasoning( my homemade recipe!)

1(10 oz) can Rotel tomatoes, you can use regular diced tomatoes if you don’t like the heat)

2 cups beef broth(use water if you don’t have broth)

1 cup pasta

Cheese Sauce:

2 Tbsp butter

2 Tbsp flour

3/4 cup milk

1 cup shredded cheddar cheese

1/2 Tsp salt

1/2 Tsp pepper

For the pasta:

  1. Brown meat until no longer pink. Drain.
  2. Add taco seasoning, tomatoes and beef broth and mix together.
  3. Bring to simmer and add pasta.
  4. Cook 10-15 mins or until pasta is cooked.

For the cheese sauce:

  1. Add butter to a saute pan and melt.
  2. On med heat, add flour and whisk until combined.
  3. Whisk and cook until it is fragrant and golden brown.
  4. Add milk slowly, whisking the entire time.
  5. Add cheese, salt and pepper and whisk until cheese is melted.
  6. Add cheese sauce to pasta and serve!

Why I don’t beauty blog

A lot of people question why I don’t wear makeup. I’ve tried, I have previously worn make up and occasionally will wear it for events. Some of the hottest, trending bloggers are beauty bloggers. I’m not saying your bad if your a beauty blogger. By all means forward me some tips! But beauty does not consume me, at least not society’s kind.

Today’s society is bombarded with perfect body shapes and perfect skin, the hottest colors and trendiest clothes. It’s plastered all over magazines and movie screens. For a long time, I was trying to stay on that route. Lucky for me I met a boy, when at 17 I was trying to become what society paints all women to be, who loved me regardless of what I wore or looked like when I was with him. My husband’s not a poet, and he’s not a writer. Sometimes he’s stubborn and sometimes he’s rough around the edges. Tuesday will be our two year anniversary of being married. We’ve been together 7 years and he’s never stopped calling me beautiful. His definition is something completely different than what society paints. He sees me as beautiful when I’m covered in paint from some furniture project I’m doing. He sees me as beautiful when I’m having a depressed day, haven’t had a shower, and have barely made it off the couch. He sees me as beautiful when I’m frustrated and angry because my recent DIY project didn’t turn out to be anything like what it was suppose to be. He sees me as beautiful even when I’m upset with him. Your confidence may come from make up and that’s okay. My confidence comes from the way one man wraps his arms around me and kisses me on the worst day ever. I didn’t expect to marry my first boyfriend but he was perfect for me in every way. He loves me just the way I was meant to be loved. The feminist movement would say not to depend on a man to make you feel beautiful, I would say they haven’t found what I have.

Turkey Pasta Bakes

I’m not going to lie I have like three blog posts worth of pictures on my computer. I actually made these about three weeks ago and they’re currently sitting in my freezer waiting to be eaten.

One day I’m going to sit down and do an actual freezer meal post. Until then I’ll post random freezer meals here and there. This one is fairly quick, healthy, and super easy. You can’t really mess this up AND it’s kind of impressive to think that you made something so healthy and quick!

I can’t take all the credit for this recipe though. I didn’t actually come up with it. I’ve been following this awesome guy on Instagram and YouTube who makes extremely healthy, affordable meals. Go check him out, you’ll be a lifelong follower!

You can find his version of the recipe here. I added a few different things to mine and left some stuff out. For instance this recipe calls for red onions and bell pepper, I only added about half of what was called for since my husband isn’t a huge fan of either. Also, I used regular pasta versus quinoa pasta. It’s what I had on hand and I’m not so sure I’m ready to make the jump! Haha

Turkey and Zucchini Pasta Bakes

32 oz lean ground turkey

8 oz pasta(I used penne noodles)

5/8 C. mozzarella cheese

1/2 C. red onion, chopped

2 C. zucchini, chopped

1 bell pepper, chopped

2 tomatoes, I used on the vine

1 C. chicken broth

2 6-oz cans tomato paste
1. Preheat oven to 375F. In a large skillet, brown turkey.

2. Add in chopped zucchini and cook for around 2-3 mins. If your using onion and bell pepper you can add that now as well.

3. Add in tomato paste and mix thoroughly

4. Gradually add in chicken broth until completely combine, then add in chopped tomatoes.

5. Add in uncooked pasta and let mixture simmer for around 8-10 mins. If your skillet isn’t large enough to add the pasta in you can cook the pasta and add it to the loaf pans and spoon the mixture over the top.

6. Spoon mixture into 5 mini loaf pans and cook at 375F for 20 mins.

7. Top each one with 1/8 cup of cheese, I used cheddar at the time because that’s what I always have on hand. Cover with foil and freeze! When ready to eat just thaw them over night in the fridge and bake in the oven again at 375F for 20 mins!
