Mason Jar Salads

I’m always looking for ways to make lunch quicker to prep for the week. This past week was the beginning of rush period for the college. I worked at two different campuses pulling 7:30am-7:00pm shifts. Meal prep was the last thing on my mind.

The week before that I tried a new way to make salads for work. I always send all the ingredients for salads in little snack baggies. I’m always worried about the stuff falling out or getting left behind.

I saw a few posts recently circulating through Facebook about mason jar salads so I thought I’d give it a try.

First I purchase 12 quart size mason jars from Kroger. They’re mostly a seasonal item so if you can’t find them you can order them Ball Regular Mouth Quart Jars with Lids and Bands, Set of 12<img src=”; width=”1″ height=”1″ border=”0″ alt=”” style=”border:none !important; margin:0px !important;” />

First: add your dressing of choice. I used ranch for these. I filled it to the first little line that says ML.

Second: add the meat, or if you prefer vegetables on your salad you can add them here. Just make sure they are moisture resistant. I used left over grilled barbecue chicken in these.

Third: add your cheese of choice. I always use cheddar so I’m not sure how anything else would hold up.

Fourth: I added croutons to my jars. They held up well until closer to the end of the week.

Lastly, add your lettuce! I always hand chop romaine hearts and use those.

There you have it! A quick, easy, on the go salad!
